Laura Ulejeviene: "Here, you have vast opportunities to explore different fields."
At Ignitis Group, we believe growth doesn’t have to mean moving on – it can mean moving forward. For Laura Ulejevienė, whose career within the Group spans over 20 years, the journey has been a testament to just that: a story of evolving roles, continuous learning, and staying true to one’s inner purpose – without ever leaving the organisation.
From entry-level specialist to leading teams, Laura’s career path reflects the freedom to explore new roles, take on fresh challenges, and keep discovering new passions – all under one roof.
“The beauty of working in a large organisation is that if you’re open to it – if you’re curious, bold, and ready – you can move across fields, try something completely new, and still be right where you belong,” says Laura.
Bridging positions through numbers
"Last December marked 21 years since I started working here. Over those years, I've seen and been part of countless transformations, changes, and innovations. I originally joined 'Lietuvos Dujos,' a highly respected employer at the time. When a former study mate recommended me, I didn't hesitate – even though it meant switching from HR to finance," recalls Laura, now Head of the process group at AB “Energijos skirstymo operatorius” (ESO), part of Ignitis Group.
After eight years in finance, Laura faced another significant shift within the Ignitis Group. "I was noticed by leaders who saw my potential and I started my path in a different field – gas accounting. When I first started, I felt completely out of my depth. Even though I was still in the same organisation, the nature of the work was entirely different. The only thing connecting my previous and new jobs was numbers. I had to learn everything from scratch," remembers L. Ulejevienė.
She progressed from senior manager to senior inspector, leading her first small team. Later, she took on a major leadership role heading the Gas Metering and Methodology Unit at ESO’s Kaunas branch, supervising a team of 30 people. Laura jokes that the title was so long that she had to practise saying her long job title without getting tongue-tied.
A master's diploma that didn't gather dust
Following organisational changes, Laura again switched roles within the company—working not only with gas but also with electricity accounting. "Later, another significant career shift occurred within the Group. By that time, I had completed my master's studies in organizational psychology. When I received my diploma, I thought I wouldn't be able to apply it in an energy company and tucked it away. I vividly remember that moment because, soon after, ESO underwent significant transformation focusing on customer experience, where all the knowledge gained during my studies proved invaluable. I was appointed to a team that implemented new customer service standards and the entire customer service culture," recalls L. Ulejevienė.
Initially, she observed her colleagues' work and conducted trainings. Over time, Laura was appointed as the Customer service quality coordinator. "From customer service and problem-solving, I transitioned to the field of learning and development, where I worked for five years.
A new role – and the same spirit of a beginner
Then, I again significantly shifted my career direction and moved to the process area. As I often say, I returned to my 'native' accounting department," Laura shares about another career stage and her then-new role as ESO Process Manager. After three years, another change awaited—since mid-March this year, Laura has been appointed Head of the Process Group in the Smart Accounting Infrastructure Department at ESO. Her team's main task is developing smart electricity meter systems, while process group leaders are responsible for all processes in the Smart Accounting Department.
"Working in a large organisation is charming because it offers truly vast opportunities to test yourself, try different jobs, and explore various possibilities. If you have any desires, ambitions, and a bit of courage, you can move from one area to another and, after gaining a wealth of competencies, stand in the shoes of a newcomer again. My experience, having done this multiple times, proves it," shares Laura.
Growth that’s both professional and personal
Not only broad career and professional development opportunities motivate Laura to continue working with the Group. “I truly value my personal time – I love to travel. That’s why benefits like extra vacation days granted for work tenure really matter. Besides, I enjoy the broad range of employee perks – from volunteer day and additional days if you are sick or need to recharge to MELP points, which can be earned for extra activities and redeemed for products or experiences.
Laura earns MELP points by delivering internal trainings on conflict resolution and burnout prevention – topics she’s passionate about.
“My current role doesn’t involve training, but my internal drive to share knowledge is still there. That’s why I joined GROW Academy as a trainer – and I’m able to bring that part of me to life, too.”
Whether it’s through internal mentoring, ambassador programmes, or well–being initiatives, Ignitis Group offers employees like Laura the space to develop, connect, and thrive – not just as professionals, but as people.
“It’s not just about jobs–it’s about purpose. I’ve found mine here. More than once.“
