New Horizons: Žymantas' Career Path
Žymantas graduated from the Lithuanian Maritime Academy with a qualification in Marine Navigation, equipping him with a strong understanding of international maritime law and vessel regulations. He worked on various types of vessels, operating in regions from the Baltic Sea to the Persian Gulf.
From the Sea to Renewable Energy
For the past eight years, Žymantas has specialized in offshore wind turbine projects, taking part in both their construction and operational phases. During this time, he worked on 19 different offshore wind farms in Europe. His experience working on ships and in various offshore wind farms has provided him with valuable knowledge on the application and enforcement of safety requirements and standards in practice.
However, life at sea was just one chapter of his journey. “Five years ago, I realized I would need to transition to a shore-based role eventually—to spend more time with my family and continue my professional growth. The opportunity to work at Ignitis Renewables came at the perfect time.”
The Road to Ignitis Renewables
A pivotal moment in Žymantas’ career was earning the NEBOSH certification—an internationally recognized qualification in occupational health and safety. This achievement marked a crucial step in his transition to a land-based role and joining the team.
“Joining Ignitis Renewables allowed me to apply my maritime expertise in a local context. Contributing to the development of Lithuania’s first offshore wind farm has given me a new sense of purpose and professional ambition.”
A New Role, Exciting Challenges
As a Marine Safety Specialist, Žymantas is responsible for ensuring that vessels and offshore operations are carried out safely and in compliance with established health and safety requirements. His role also includes various other safety-related tasks, such as reviewing existing safety regulations, ensuring compliance, evaluating contractors, and conducting vessel inspections.
“When I was working at sea, I carried out all tasks together with my crew. Now, I must ensure that contractors perform these tasks safely and in compliance with established safety procedures. This is a new type of work for me, but I am motivated by the opportunity to share my experience and by the great team that supports me every step of the way.”
A Fresh Perspective on the Future of Energy
Žymantas’ career path demonstrates how maritime experience can be invaluable in advancing renewable energy projects. His involvement in developing Lithuania’s first offshore wind farm enables him to share his knowledge and contribute to the growth of this promising sector.
