All aboard the offshore wind engineering studies
Ignitis Group, a renewables-focused integrated utility, has begun cooperating with VILNIUS TECH Lithuanian Maritime Academy (LAJM). The aim of this cooperation is to strengthen the team of marine energy specialists. LAJM established a new study programme and is establishing a competence centre that will train offshore wind turbine engineers.
Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group, notes that marine energy is an integral component of the energy sector, which will significantly contribute to the creation of surplus green energy in the region. “We actively cooperate with educational institutions, businesses and municipalities to grow an ecosystem that will bring long-term benefits to Lithuania,” says D. Maikštėnas.
Considering the changes in the market, LAJM has established a study programme called ‘Offshore wind turbine engineering’. By preparing the required specialists, the programme will contribute to increasing national energy security. The competence centre will ensure the quality of training the offshore specialists and will satisfy the market demand.
Student admission to the program began on 1 June, when general admission to higher education institutions started. The first year of the programme will be taught in Lithuanian, and later – in English. The mathematics exam will have the greatest weight in the admission score.
