Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plant is one of the most technologically advanced cogeneration plants in Europe. It can generate electricity and heat simultaneously and cover around 40% of the annual district heating demand in the capital. The plant is using two types of fuel, non-hazardous non-recyclable municipal waste left after sorting and biofuel. The waste-to-energy (WtE) unit has one boiler, and the biomass unit has two.
