The first stage of Stelpe solar farm in Latvia reaches commercial operations date
Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, continues its expansion in Latvia. Last week, the announcement was made on the Vārme solar farm commencing operation, and today, Stelpe solar farm I has reached its commercial operation date. Covering 85 hectares, the power plant with a total installed capacity of 72.5 megawatts (MW) is equipped with 121 thousand solar panels.
“This project symbolizes our strong commitment to creating a green and secure energy ecosystem in Latvia and the entire region. This solar farm will help supply thousands of households with clean electricity, while also promoting local economic growth and strengthening community partnerships”, says Baiba Lāce, Head of Ignitis Renewables in Latvia.
Stelpe solar farm I is being implemented in the southern part of Latvia, in Bauska municipality. Investments in the first phase of this solar farm, including the acquisition price and construction costs, are expected to reach up to EUR 50 million. The solar farm will operate under market conditions, with the energy generated contributing to the local supply of green energy.
The Stelpe solar project consists of two separate sites, both with a 72.5 MW capacity and is one of the three large-scale solar farms being implemented by Ignitis Renewables in Latvia. The other two are the 94 MV Vārme solar farm, which reached its commercial operation date this week, and the 174 MW Tume solar farm project, which is continuing to be developed. These three power plants, with a total installed capacity of more than 400 MW, will be able to supply renewable electricity to almost 200 thousand households every year.
In developing its projects in Latvia, the company closely cooperates with local communities and municipalities, implements financial support initiatives, and adheres to high environmental standards. This project is a part of a broader vision to build a cleaner, more reliable and sustainable energy system across the Baltics.
