Ignitis Group is joining the global Junior Achievement programme JA Job Shadow and invites students from the schools participating in the programme to experience energy professions up close. This programme is for students in grades 9 to 12. They will be able to visit different teams of energy professionals and get to learn about jobs in the energy sector.

For the third year in a row, Lietuvos Junior Achievement is conducting a programme for educating about careers, which helps students to get to know themselves better, promotes professional careers and introduces them to various professions. This year the programme was joined by Ignitis Group and its #EnergySmartSTART programme. The company will invite students for shadowing, where it will introduce them to the positions they are interested in.

“This year we will invite students to experience 11 professions in person. Students will be able to try out various positions at the companies of Ignitis Group, for example, Business Analyst at Ignitis; Head of Labour Relations or Renewable Energy Project Manager at Ignitis Renewables; Head of Maintenance or Project Manager at Ignitis Gamyba, etc. We believe that it will be a great opportunity for students to chat with professionals in the field as well as witness work routine and challenges in the energy sector,” said Vaiva Rutkauskaitė, Head of #EnergySmartSTART Education Programmes.

Students are invited to register for shadowing 6 through 19 November on a JA Job Shadow platform at www.seseliavimas.lt/. 27 students will be selected for shadowing in Ignitis Group. Their visits will take place from 20 November to 3 December.

It is not the first student-oriented initiative of Ignitis Group. The company, together with other energy companies, is conducting a programme #EnergySmartSTART, which includes various initiatives, such as student tours to energy facilities, lectures at Lithuanian schools and scholarships for engineering students.

“Our goal is to promote energy and engineering professions. Lithuania is already experiencing a shortage of professionals in the sector, and in the future the demand for such professionals will grow rapidly. We believe that the programmes like JA Job Shadow will introduce students to career opportunities in the energy sector, teach them about the knowledge and skills necessary for such jobs and maybe even help them discover their career path,” elaborates V. Rutkauskaitė.

According to Indrė Engelkytė-Iršė, Programme Manager at Lietuvos Junior Achievement, this is a great chance for students to learn about different professions and organisations. Students will also be able to witness the work environment and specifics up close, ask questions, discuss issues and try out various activities.

“We are running the programme for the third year and every year we receive more and more attention from students as well as business representatives. Shadowing is very beneficial to the latter as it allows them to see their business from the perspective of a young person and get feedback,” listed benefits I. Engelkytė-Iršė.
