Ignitis Group, a renewables-focused integrated utility, has made a EUR 4 million humanitarian aid to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which will be used to buy equipment for providing an additional 120 MW of electricity generation capacity in the war-torn country. The total power plant’s capacity will ensure a stable supply of electricity to around 420,000 Ukrainian households and contribute to the restoration of vital functions.

"Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure are directly targeting the entire population of the country, which will face disruptions in electricity, heating and water supplies as the cold season approaches.  The humanitarian aid will be used to increase the capacity of one of Ukraine's power plants by additional 120 MW.  It can meet the supply demand of about twice as many households as there are in Vilnius, or about 420,000," says Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group.

Ignitis Group pledged EUR 4 million humanitarian aid to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, established with the objective of providing financial assistance to repair Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks and ensuring the continued functionality of the energy sector. It is managed by the Energy Community Secretariat in coordination with the European Commission, and implemented in close cooperation with the USAID financed ESP and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, with contributions from governments, international organizations, and corporate donors.

The allocation of the funds was formally approved on 8 October following the signing of an agreement between Ignitis Group and the Energy Community Secretariat.

“The Fund is the fastest way to address urgent energy needs, keeping the lights on and uniting nations in solidarity. Donors provide more than aid—they deliver hope and resilience to a nation at war. We hope the example set by Ignitis Group will inspire other EU energy companies to step up and do their part,“ said Artur Lorkowski, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.

Due to the ongoing Russian war in Ukraine, information on the specific facilities and the equipment to be procured for specific areas is kept confidential.
