Ignitis Renewables signs an agreement to acquire a hybrid power plant development project in Lithuania
Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares in Nord Wind Park, a renewable energy project under development in Pasvalys district, Lithuania. The hybrid power plant consists of a 200-megawatt (MW) wind farm, a 50 MW solar farm and a 20 MW (80 MWh) battery energy storage system.
“We are driving the investments up to reach our long-term goal of 4–5 GW green capacities installed by 2030. We focus on technologies that can deliver a 100% green and secure energy ecosystem,” says Giedrius Meškelė, Head of Renewable Energy in Lithuania at Ignitis Renewables.
According to him, the hybrid project consists of several technologies. It is a wind farm complemented by a solar farm and a battery energy storage system. "Batteries enable integration of renewables by facilitating demand management, improves grid reliability while limiting output curtailment," emphasises G. Meškelė.
The project is expected to secure the grid connection capacity in the near future.
