On 13 October, the order of the Ministry of Energy, allocating funding to Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plant, entered into force. The power plant will produce electricity and thermal energy from the local renewable energy sources.
Almost EUR 91 million will be allocated for the project. These funds will be used to build a new cogeneration unit that will produce energy from the renewable energy sources (biofuel) which generating capacity of electric power will be up to 73 megawatts (MW); meanwhile, the heat power will be approximately 169 MW. It is estimated that the new Vilnius Combined Heat and Power Plant will be able to produce up to 40% of all heat that is supplied for the capital residents in a centralised manner.
