Ignitis Group, the largest listed company in the Baltics, is allocating funds for the second year in a row to national universities and colleges to support and promote the study programmes that are strategically important to the energy sector, including electrical engineering and energy engineering studies, their popularity and attractiveness. This year the financial support has doubled. Higher education institutions will receive EUR 300,000 in total and will use the funds to grant 100 scholarships for first- and second-year students. Students will receive EUR 300 per month for 10 months per year.

In 2022–2023 Ignitis Group has allocated EUR 150,000 to 8 higher education institutions, which used the funds to grant 50 scholarships to first-years. To maintain continuity, scholarships will now be granted to both second-year and first-year students.

“We feel that it's important to support the second-year students while continuing the practice of supporting first-years as we stand by our commitments voiced last year. Considering the energy transition acceleration and tendencies that are influenced by the development of onshore and offshore wind farms, hydrogen technologies and many other innovations, we must constantly remind ourselves that Lithuania and the entire region requires a new generation of energy professionals, minds that are keen to act. As we are thinking about the future, we are investing in the people who will continue the work we’ve started,” said Giedrė Žlibinienė, Head of #EnergySmartSTART Programme.

Ignitis Group, together with other energy sector’s participants, has already succeeded in truly remarkable endeavours just within a year, all in an effort to popularise and promote the energy sector.

G. Žlibinienė notes that it's important to celebrate the newly formed relationship with higher education institutions and be proud of the 50 students who are currently receiving scholarships. Their engagement in the energy sector reminds us of the benefits of investing in them.

“We are happy to see a new and perspective generation grow, and we hope that the scholarships will encourage students to choose electricity engineering and energy engineering studies,” stated the Head of #EnergySmartSTART Programme.
