Ignitis Group has signed a cooperation agreement with Simonas Daukantas Engineering Gymnasium in Šiauliai

Ignitis Group, a renewables-focused integrated utility, and Simonas Daukantas Engineering Gymnasium in Šiauliai signed an education cooperation agreement.

The cooperation agreement was signed by the CEO of Ignitis Group, Darius Maikštėnas, and the Director of Simonas Daukantas Engineering Gymnasium in Šiauliai, Vytautas Kantauskas.

Under the agreement, both parties have undertaken to cooperate by sharing teaching (learning) material, knowledge and raising the profile of energy professions that are vital to the energy sector. Simonas Daukantas Engineering Gymnasium in Šiauliai became yet another friend of the #EnergySmartSTART programme.

“The future of energy is in the hands of young talents. Without their will, there will be no energy of the future. The #EnergySmartSTART programme is spreading a message about the transformation of the energy sector and introducing students to the future professions in the energy sector. We are meeting our future colleagues and we want to be by their side and help them choose their career path,” says Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group.

“The cooperation between Simonas Daukantas Engineering Gymnasium in Šiauliai and Ignitis Group is an important step in educating the future engineers and energy specialists. The gymnasium students get an opportunity to observe real challenges of the energy sector up close, gain practical skills and meet the top professionals in their field. Cooperation enables creativity and provides a platform for students to realise their ideas and receive assistance from professionals,” noted Vytautas Kantauskas, Director of Simonas Daukantas Engineering Gymnasium in Šiauliai.

#EnergySmartSTART, a long-term programme uniting various initiatives in the energy sector, was launched to prevent potential challenges in the energy sector, including the qualified workforce shortage as current energy professionals are nearing their retirement age and the ambitious renewable energy strategy. The programme’s goals are to engage people and involve them in the creation of the energy sector, encourage them to be energy smart and popularise the fields of study that are strategically important to the energy sector.
